What are the locations of your offices?

 

We have 123 office locations located across Virginia and North Carolina.  To find your closest office, click on our Locations page.

 

What do I need to open an account?

 

In order to open an account with us, we require two forms of valid identification; the account holder must be of legal age, and the required minimum deposit amount for the account in which you are opening.  You may visit any one of our local offices and set up an account within minutes.  Some accounts offer debit cards and unlimited check writing abilities while others offer very competitive interest rates.

 

Do you have online banking?

 

Carter Bank & Trust currently does not offer online banking.  Our biggest concern is online security for our customers.  We want to develop secure online banking that protects the accounts that you open.

 

What are your hours of operation?

 

Our office hours vary by location.  To find the office nearest you, visit our Locations page.

 

We are closed on Sundays.

 

What is the cut-off time for deposits?

 

Currently, all deposits made before 1:00 PM will be posted to your account the same day.  Any deposit made to your account after 1:00 PM will be posted on the following business day.

 

Are my deposits FDIC insured?  If so, by how much?

 

Yes.  All deposit accounts are FDIC insured up to the maximum amount allowed by law, which is currently $250,000 per depositor, subject to aggregation rules.

 

Do you offer overdraft protection?

 

We do not offer overdraft protection to our customers.  Our current fee for all overdrafts is $25 with a maximum of $75 per day.

 

Do you have ATM machines?

 

We do not have ATM machines.  However, you may use your Carter Bank & Trust Debit MasterCard at all other ATMs.

 

What is the Carter Bank & Trust Debit MasterCard?

 

It's an enhanced banking card that lets you make purchases without the hassles of carrying cash or writing checks.  Purchase amounts are automatically deducted from the Carter Bank & Trust checking account that is linked to the card.

 

How can this card make my life easier?

 

It's very convenient because you can use the card to:

  • Make purchases at more than 28 million places worldwide where Debit MasterCard is accepted

  • Get cash at more than 1.5 million ATMs that accept MasterCard

How would I keep track of my debit card transactions?

 

It's easy!  Your checking account statement will include a listing of all purchases made, including the merchant name, the purchase date, and the amount spent.

 

Is it safe to use a debit card to pay for purchases?

 

Yes.  You can shop with the debit card on the Internet, by phone, or in person.  If your card is lost or stolen or if your card number is used without your permission, you'll have zero liability for unauthorized purchases.  Exceptions Apply.
